2024 Edge VS 2023 Honda Passport

2024 Edge

SUVs are perennially among the most popular vehicles in America, and Edge has the attributes to deliver the combination of comfort and functionality that owners demand. With five models, including a performance-oriented Edge ST and styling enhancements in the ST-Line model, the 2024 Edge offers a match for almost any potential buyer. Let's look at how Edge handles competitors in this thriving segment.

Power That Moves You

Bottom Line:
The smaller-displacement, lighter and efficient 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 engine is standard in Edge SE, SEL,ST-Line and Titanium delivers more maximum standard torque than the sole 3.5LV6 engine in Passport.

Worth Noting:
The 2.0Lin Edge delivers its torque a full 1,700 rpm sooner than the 3.5L, something drivers will notice when accelerating.

  Edge 2.0LEcoBoost I-4 +/- Passport 3.5L V6
Horsepower 250 @ 5,500 rpm -30 280 @ 6,000 rpm
Torque (lb.-ft.) 275 @ 3,000 rpm +13 262 @ 4,700 rpm

The Powerful Edge ST Performance

Bottom Line:
The performance story is just getting started with Edge. The ST model features the 2.7L EcoBoost V6engine with 335 horsepower, which is exceptionally powerful among SUVs. The Ford Performance Team integrated a sport-tuned suspension, ST-specific 20" aluminum wheels and paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Standard all-wheel drive and an available ST Performance Brake Package top off its performance capabilities.

Worth Noting:
Passport offers nothing like the Edge ST model.

Driver-Assist Technology

Bottom Line:
As you can see in the chart, both vehicles offer a wide range of driver-assist technologies. Edge has standard Pedestrian Detection and Driver Alert System — not provided in Honda Sensing.

Worth Noting:
While both vehicles offer Adaptive Cruise Control, only Edge offers available Evasive Steering Assist.

Connectivity Across the Board

Bottom Line:
Comprehensive connectivity across every Edge trim level is standard with an embedded 4G LTE modem with Wi-Fi hotspot that enables FordPass Connect. Wi-Fi capability is not available on Passport EX-L or Trail Sport.

Worth Noting:
Honda owners have to move up to the top Elite trim to access Wi-Fi capability.

  Point Counterpoint

Passport uses Variable Cylinder Management to deactivate up to three of its six engine cylinders, as well as “Idle-Stop” technology during specific driving conditions to save fuel.

The standard Edge 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost engine uses advanced EcoBoost turbocharging technology to help provide the best of both worlds — the power and efficiency outlined previously — without the need to deactivate cylinders. Edge matches Passport by providing Auto Start-Stop Technology and goes a step further than the Honda SUV with standard Active Grille Shutters, which close at certain times to help channel air flow around the vehicle. This strategy helps Ford off er the 2.7L EcoBoost V6engine in Edge ST, producing outstanding horsepower and torque, while offering the same EPA-estimated combined mpg rating — 21 mpg — as the Passport V6.

  Point Counterpoint
Passport has more available cargo space than Edge.

It's true that Passport offers a "slight" advantage in cargo capacity, but not as much as they advertise.

Honda claims Passport gives owners 50.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 100.7 cubic feet with the second-rows eats folded down. However, these measurements include space between seating rows and with the seats in their forward-most and upright positions. Honda discloses this only in the fi ne print.

So here are the real numbers, and you'll see that when comparing apples to apples, Edge and Passport offer comparable cargo space.

Edge
  • Behind 1st-row seats: 73.4 cu. ft.
  • Behind 2nd-row seats: 39.2 cu. ft.
Passport
  • Behind 1st-row seats: 77.7 cu. ft.
  • Behind 2nd-row seats: 41.2 cu. ft.
  1. Horsepower and torque ratings based on premium fuel per SAE J1349 standard. Your results may vary.
  2. Don't drive while distracted or while using handheld devices. Use voice-operated systems when possible. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
  3. Wi-Fi hotspot includes complimentary wireless data trial that begins upon AT&T activation and expires at the end of 3 months or when 3GB of data is used, whichever comes first. To activate, go to www.att.com/ford
  4. FordPass Connect, the FordPass App and complimentary Connected Service are required for remote features (see FordPass Terms for details). Connected service and features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent operation of connected features. Connected service excludes Wi-Fi hotspot.
  5. EPA-estimated mpg for Edge ST: 19 city/25 highway/21 combined. Actual mileage will vary.
  6. Cargo and load capacity limited by weight and weight distribution.

DRIVER-ASSIST NOTE:
Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver's attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle. It does not replace safe driving. See Owner's Manual for details and limitations.

PERFORMANCE NOTE:
Horsepower and torque are independent attributes and may not be achieved simultaneously.
